First Vintage - Monts Fournois Coteaux Champenois

August 13, 2025viviana d'angiola

fresh voice in the world of artisanal ChampagneLes Monts Fournois is the exciting new project of Juliette Alips, guided by her cousins Raphaël and Vincent Bérêche of the renowned Bérêche et Fils estate. Though still in its early stages, this domaine shows immense promise, with a focus on purity, terroir, and thoughtful winemaking.

While we await the first vintage Champagne (due in 2027), we are thrilled to offer Juliette's debut release: a Côteaux Champenois Blanc from a tiny 1961-planted Chardonnay plot in the Monts Fournois Premier Cru.

For those craving bubbles, the domaine has also unveiled a stunning Late Disgorgement bottling from Chouilly Grand Cru under their Cru Sélectionnés range. Antonio Galloni hailed it as 'truly stellar' followed by a solid 95/100 – a score that speaks for itselfPatience in winemaking is key, and 53 months on the lees worked wonders for this explosive Chardonnay.

With extremely limited production, allocations will be tight, and priority given to buyers of both wines.

"The 2022 Coteaux Champenois is racy and expressive right out of the glass. Lemon confit, marzipan, white flowers, passion fruit, mint and a kiss of French oak meld together effortlessly. Tropical notes lend an exotic flair, along with lovely weight and creaminess that builds through the mid-palate and into the finish. This is the first Coteaux Champenois made by Juliette Alpis. Drinking Window: 2025-2030" - 92 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

£ 362 per 6x75cl (Home)

"The 2019 Côte Premier Cru,100% Chardonnay from Chouilly, is terrific. Citrus peel, white flowers, mint, white pepper and slate all run through this nervy Champagne. The 2019 builds beautifully with time in the glass before exploding with a bevy of tropical aromatics, minerality and overall intensity on the finish. This is truly stellar. Dosage is 5.6 grams per liter. Disgorged: November 2024. Drinking Window: 2025-2034" - 95 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

"There’s plenty of news from the Bérêche family these days. Brothers Raphaël and Vincent Bérêche have decided to focus on their core holdings and wines. As part of this change, they spun out their vineyards in Les Monts Fournois and created a new estate that is being run by their cousin, Juliette Alips, whose resume includes stints at G.D. Vajra, Roederer and Château Latour.

The Monts Fournois range will encompass Coteaux Champenois and Champagne. I was able to taste the first vintages of the Coteaux for this report, but it will be some years before the Champagnes are released. During this transition period to a fully estate winery, Les Monts Fournois will also market the Cote series of négociant Champagnes the Bérêche brothers introduced a few years ago.

The domaine’s Champagne will make its debut in a few years with the 2022 vintage. In the meantime, there is plenty to explore in this range. This year, I was especially impressed with the Cote wines, which are a cut or two above the first releases."
