RÉNO PACALET – First Solo Vintage (Burgundy 2023)

RÉNO PACALET – First Solo Vintage (Burgundy 2023)

February 18, 2025viviana d'angiola
In the run-up to our much-anticipated Burgundy EP release from our dear friend Pacalet, we are truly excited to present you with the first vintage of Réno, Philippe’s son, and his very own project.

Since tasting from barrel earlier last year, we knew Réno Pacalet’s debut vintage was a rare and captivating offering we could not miss. With his father renowned for championing natural winemaking, Réno carries forward this legacy with a fresh perspective, creating wines that exude authenticity and joy. Although his work in the family cellar keeps him rather busy, Réno vowed to establish his own identity and explore terroirs beyond those for which his father is famous. Up in Chassagne, he joined a group of friends with whom he shares winemaking facilities - a vibrant hub where Réno is honing his skills in the company of other talented young winemakers.

Like father, like son; Réno works gently in the cellar, crafting tactile and aromatic wines, brimming with youthful joy. Ultimately, it is evident that Philippe’s influence is reflected in his son's approach. In true Burgundian fashion, what really distinguishes them is the concept of terroir.

Réno Pacalet’s first release features three appellations that resonate deeply with both rising winemaking stars and discerning wine enthusiasts - Mercury, Santenay and Maranges. Here, wines are crafted with a focus on pure drinking pleasure, something Réno's bottlings have in spades.

As Réno’s maiden vintage, these 2023 wines mark the beginning of what promises to be a rather exciting journey, and they arrive on the heels of a challenging 2024 where very few grapes made it to the vats.

Early supporters have a unique opportunity to secure these inaugural gems before the word is out. Once the buzz starts, securing some may be more challenging than you anticipate.

MORE ABOUT..

MAISON RÉNO PACALET

Nestled between the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits and the charming town of Beaune, Reno Pacalet’s journey in wine began as early as his first steps, growing up immersed in the rhythm of nature and the winemaking cycle. With one foot in the vineyards and the other in the cellar, his passion for viticulture has been a lifelong affair.

Reno’s experience is as diverse as it is enriching. Between 2014 and 2016, he honed his skills working at a prominent wine estate in Montalcino, Tuscany, before completing a master’s degree at Strasbourg’s business school. Upon returning to the family estate, Maison Philippe Pacalet, for the 2019 harvest, he focused on crafting white wines, further grounding himself in the craft.

In 2020, despite aspirations to explore winemaking abroad, the pandemic kept him rooted in Burgundy. Seizing the opportunity, Reno deepened his knowledge alongside his father, navigating the intricate dance of vineyard work, cellar practices, and sales. By 2021, he had solidified his technical expertise by earning the BTSA Viticulture Oenology diploma from the Viti de Beaune.

A bold new chapter began in 2023 with the founding of Maison Réno. Based in a shared winery in Chassagne-Montrachet, Reno embarked on producing his own wines, selecting grapes from terroirs that fascinate him across the Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise.

Reno’s philosophy reflects his profound respect for nature and tradition:

  • Purity over artificiality
  • Sensitivity over technology
  • Terroir expression over standardization
  • Low-sulphite practices over excessive intervention

Inspired by his father Philippe Pacalet, his uncle Christophe Pacalet, and influential winemakers like Camille and Mathieu Lapierre, Reno strives to create wines that authentically reflect their origins. His commitment to natural winemaking and his meticulous attention to detail shine through in every bottle produced under Maison Réno.

For Reno, winemaking is more than a craft—it’s a connection to the land and a celebration of wines that embody purity, character, and soul.
