2023 Domaine Jean Fery, Chambolle-Musigny La Belle Dame

Chambolle-Musigny is often described as the most "feminine" expression of the Côte de Nuits, and Jean Fery’s "La Belle Dame" is a poetic testament to that reputation. Sourced from a tiny, 0.16-hectare east-facing plot characterised by brown limestone and sandy soils, this cuvée captures the ethereal elegance of the terroir. Crystal clear and translucent with a deep ruby hue, it is a wine of grace, composure, and quiet authority.

The nose is evocative and young, offering a fragrant bouquet of lilac, violet, and rose petals, layered over a core of fresh raspberry, red plum, and wild strawberry. An initial burst of cherry and salted plum transitions into cassis and forest mushroom on the mid-palate, with its signature silky tannins.

Winemaker François Lecaillon treats this micro-parcel with exceptional delicacy. The fruit is vinified with 30% whole clusters to provide lift and structural "green" freshness, using only indigenous yeasts to preserve the site's identity. The wine underwent 14 months of élevage in French oak barrels (25% new), allowing the wood to integrate seamlessly into the translucent fruit. It is a brilliant example of the "New Burgundy" focus on transparency and terroir-driven energy.
